Firms who do social research often screen such companies from money manager portfolios due to the belief systems of those invested in certain financial products. This is often based on revenue thresholds, the amount of revenues derived from a certain line of business, especially in such large and widely held firms as IBM. For example, Quakers are unlikely to tolerate as much military investment as athiests. Broad groups with focused investment profiles, like religious institutions' pension programs will often have a written "IPS" or Investor Policy Statement which provides clear guidelines for the money manager.
