- Starbucks created the Starbucks Foundation in 1997, which provides grants for literacy programs. So far the foundation has provided over $11 million to more than 700 youth focused organizations in the United States and Canada. The Foundation usually partners with organizations that already work on education and literacy, such as JumpStart, America SCORES, and the Earth Day Network.
- Additionally, the company started the Starbucks Neighborhood Parks Program in 2000. Since then, the program has committed over $2 million dollars to help support parks in Washington state’s King, Pierce and Snohomish counties.
- Most of Starbucks’ contribution to improving communities is given to Seattle (where the company began). They have given $500,000 to the Seattle Public Library and $550,000 to the Seattle symphony.
- During the holiday season, Starbucks organizes a toy drive to bring some “seasonal joy” to children suffering from serious illness. In 2003, they collected approximately 400,000 toys.
